Full Gold Guppy

A Full Gold Guppy is a selectively bred guppy (Poecilia reticulata) known for its rich, metallic golden-yellow body that ideally extends from head to tail with minimal dark markings.

What makes it special

  • Color: Solid gold to deep yellow; the best lines have a uniform sheen
  • Sex differences:
    • Males are smaller, brighter, with larger flowing tails
    • Females are bigger, rounder, often slightly duller in color
  • Tail types: Delta, fan, or round tails are common

Care basics

  • Tank: 10+ gallons (bigger is better for stability)
  • Water: 22–28 °C (72–82 °F), pH ~6.8–7.8
  • Diet: High-quality flakes + live/frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia)
  • Temperament: Peaceful, great community fish

Breeding notes

  • Very easy to breed (like most guppies)
  • To keep the gold color strong, breeders selectively pair the brightest individuals and cull dull offspring
